London to Brighton 2017

We had so much fun on our London to Brighton ride for 2017, with Adam W, Paul, Stevie, Sophie, Tom, Ryan, Louise, Jo, Lenny and Adam L, cycling the distance from The Royal Marsden Hospital to Brighton, on one of the hottest nicest rides we’ve had in a number of years.

This year was a little different as we decided to run the ride a week before we usually do, as we had the Wimbledon Fair the following weekend, but we were really glad that we did. As normal we took the route from The Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, down to Brighton. Many riders decided to cycle over to the start this year, so ended up covering a lot more distance than we have in previous years.

It really was a fantastic day, with riders raising lots of money and the supporters doing a fantastic job of raising over £300 en route too! Massive thanks go out to the stag and hen parties in Brighton who made it a real giggle, especially swapping shirts with Stevie!

Gin Experience

14100503_10210378060426815_1165630190180257296_nIan McCulloch one of our trustees hosted a great evening last Saturday 3rd September at his gin distillery at The Silent Pool.

We learned how the gin is made and how they came up with the great blend giving the Silent Pool gin it’s lovely taste. We were greeted with a G&T in one of their beautiful glasses and after the tour were then invited to sample some of the other products that they are making too.

Unfortunately the sun didn’t shine and the rain fell down in torrents but that didn’t spoil the evening at all. I think I can speak for all those that attended that we had a great time, learnt a lot and for me personally I had my first Gin and tonic and loved it!

If you are in the Shere/ Albury area do pop in, it is well worth a visit. Take your money with you though as you won’t be able to resist a purchase or two!

Angela’s Isle of Wight Challenge

20160430_124445_resized_1Our good friend Angela carried out an intense walking challenge around the Isle of Wight. Here’s her story of the day:

Despite numerous miles in training walks, purchase of all required gear, strapping of feet, the consumption of many pain killers and the benefits of having a great support team with us in the IOW I didn’t finish the challenge. My hips eventually got the better of me and cramp eventually ended it for me after 46kms and 12 hours of walking. I feel desperately disappointed not to have got further but glad that I at least tried. I’ve made new friends whilst doing the challenge, seen parts of Kent during training walks that I’ve never seen before (and in some cases don’t want to see again) and been to the IOW, which was a first for me. We were lucky with the weather apart from the hail storm on the afternoon of the first day when we sheltered in a hay barn. Most important of all over £1,200 was raised for Emma’s Bubble Trust which is fantastic and I thank you all again for your wonderful support.

For my part I have yet to undertake anything longer than a stroll around the village green with the dog, my walking boots are out of sight and will remain so until I have all my toe nails back and my hips are not a permanent reminder of the challenge!!

Thanks once again to each any everyone of you, its been really humbling to have had your support.

Cheers,
Ax
