The Flat – Accommodation at The Royal Marsden Hospital

We often heard through our treatment contacts at The Royal Marsden hospital that they often had teenagers and their families struggling to find places to stay locally when receiving treatment. And often they would find it difficult to travel back and forth between home and the hospital (with many having to do 300 mile round trips in a day). Our thought was that we could help here and so we made the big decision to purchase a local flat.

And as many of you are aware Our Flat is now being used by both patients having to attend daycare for chemotherapy and by parents of these teenage patients, providing accommodation at The Royal Marsden Hospital.

By being able to stay locally in the flat it makes life so much easier, cutting down on travel expenses and having the reassurance that they are a stones throw away from the hospital if they are needed.

We have had so much positive feedback from those that have stayed, saying how welcoming, comfortable and convenient it is, which is great! Check out Our Flat page to read some of the amazing comments that we have received.

Thank you so much to all those that have supported us and fundraised to help this to have become possible. Let’s hope that we can continue to offer this support to families that need it for many years to come.

Epsom Golf Club – Charity of the year

We are very fortunate to have been chosen by the Lady Captain Jane Cox of Epsom Golf Club as her charity for the year.

Lynn Brandon was invited to the ladies Invitation Day on Thursday 18th July by Jane and was made to feel very welcome by all the ladies attending.

We had a great day of golf in the sunshine followed by a very scrummy lunch.

The day raised £230 which brings the total amount the club has raised for us since March to £731.

From Lynn:

Thank you all at Epsom Golf Club for your generosity & support and for making me so welcome on the day.

The Brookes Family March – Completed!

Well they have completed the Nijmegen Four Day March challenge for the second year and they all finished looking great.

This will be the last one and who can blame them!  We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved  for such a fine effort in supporting us.

A total of over £8000 has been raised over the two marches.

A fantastic amount, for which we are extremely grateful. This has been and will be spent wisely and help future families.

We will keep in touch with Terry and wish Ollie a bright, happy and healthy future.

To the Brookes family and friends who have supported them “Thank You”.

The family enjoy a well earned drink after the Nijmegen Four Day March

The Brookes Family

You may remember Terry (dad of Ollie), Ian and Jimmy who raised lots of money for us by completing the Nijmegen Four Day March last July – well they are doing it again!

This year Terry will be joined again by Jimmy and two new team members Kris Blackhurst and Karen Raeburn.

This is fantastic news and we wish them well.

If you would like to support them by donating then just follow the link here: https://donate.giveasyoulive.com/fundraising/the-nijmegen-four-days-marches-for-charity

Good Luck guys we look forward to following your daily blogs along the way.

Our new bathroom

We must give a huge “Thank you” to Paul Oslow-Cole and his team.

He has very generously refurbished the bathroom in the Charity flat which looks absolutely fabulous.

The walk in shower has completely changed the look of the bathroom and will enable patients easier access.

Take a look at the before and after pictures – SO much better!

On behalf of the Trustees and future patients that will be staying

Thank you Paul!

The Nijmegen Four Day Marches Blog

The Brookes Family stayed at the flat in November while their son (Ollie) was undergoing intensive treatment. Very kindly Terry (Dad) and two friends Jimmy & Ian are raising funds for us and two other charities by taking part in The Nijmegen Four Day Marches.

Terry, Jimmy and Ian are currently marching up to 50 kilometres a day. All being R.E.M.E veterans, we know that they will have the mindset and drive to complete their task.

Day 1

Day one done, with no major damage to us that would prevent us from reaching the start line tomorrow. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

It is rather warm, hoping for a thunderstorm or two tomorrow 🙈🙈. There are houses that have sprinklers set up sprinkling the road for the marchers to walk through, which helps 👍👍

If you would like to support this gallant effort and keep up with their progress, please follow the link below.

Day 2

Yesterdays update can only come this morning, as we needed to firstly know how one of the team was faring after two gruelling days. Unfortunately Ian isn’t able to start day three as the last two days have taken there toll. It was a valiant effort. Onwards and upwards, Jimmy and l will be starting day three on what is known as the seven hills of Groesbeek’.

Ian we wish you all the best and hope that you’ve been able to rest up.

Day 3

The seven hills of Groesbeek have now been dispatched. With 75 miles completed, tomorrows 25 miles should hopefully be a formality. Best of luck chaps!

Celebrating with a well earned beer

Day 4

After 4 days, that was such a beautiful sight to see! Thank you everybody for your messages of support. More to follow…..

After a beer or two to celebrate our completion of the Nijmegen Marches, we have decided to leave the donation site running for another month at least. There are so many that have, if not actually pledged. Certainly implied that they wish to donate to our charities. So by keeping the give as you live page open it will give those people the ability to keep to their word. The physical challenge may now have been completed, but now starts the serious challenge of reaching our target.
There are so many people that have helped us along the way that we need to thank, over and above all that have already donated. We will do this in our final update.

Regency Grove Triathlon

A massive thank you to the team at Regency Grove Consultants and to everyone who has donated to their JLL Triathlon Fundraiser. So far they have raised a MASSIVE £6,826 in aid of Emma’s Bubble Trust, absolutely smashing their target and well shocking all of us!

Well done to the brave few, Ricky West, Matthew Clift, William Sandford, Jack Gearing and Benjamin Major MRICS who took part last week, each completing their respective events in very respectable times. Thanks guys!

Their fundraising page is still open for donations: https://lnkd.in/eGRcjzae

We really don’t know how to say thank you enough, but are looking forward to seeing you soon
